What We Believe

The Bible is the ultimate authority in Kahului Union Church and is to be lived and obeyed as it was written and understood in its original languages.

God is Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He has revealed Himself to be the living and true God, perfect in love and righteous in all His ways. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Each person is fully God.  There is one God.

People are made in the spiritual image of God, as the crown creation, to be like Him in character and to have fellowship with Him.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin".  This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Salvation is God's gift to us, but we must accept it.  We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  God's gift to us is Christ Jesus.  He is our only means of salvation.  By trusting in Christ as God's offer of forgiveness, anyone can be saved from sin's penalty.  When we turn from our self-ruled lives and turn to Christ in faith.

The universal Church is composed of all persons who through faith in Jesus Christ have been saved.  Christ is the head of the Church.  The purposes of the Church are to worship God, to demonstrate God's love to a world in need, to communicate the good news of God's gift of salvation, to unite believers, and to help believers grow spiritually mature.

God's effort of salvation will culminate in the return of Christ.  He will then raise the dead and judge all people.  Those who did not trust in Christ for their salvation will exist eternally separated from God by their sin in Hell.  Those who turned to Christ in faith for forgiveness and salvation will exist eternally with God in Heaven (Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence).  Then the whole earth will proclaim the glory of God who makes all things new!
